New York City is located on the eastern coast of the United States of America about thousand miles north of Florida and two hundred miles south of Boston Massachusetts. It is situated at the mouth of the Hudson River. Most of the city is built on several large islands.

The Big Apple, as the city is often called, is the largest city in the United States with over seven million residents. It is filled with a diverse mixture of inhabitants including immigrants from many countries.

There are three major airports near New York City. John F Kennedy airport is on Long Island about 12 miles east of Manhattan. LaGuardia is in Queens about six miles from downtown and Newark airport is across the Hudson river in New Jersey about twelve miles to the southwest of the city.

Public transportation is excellent in New York City. Busses, subway trains and taxis provide the most convenient means of transportation.

The big department stores in New York City are reliable places to buy good quality, brand named merchandise at fair prices.

The twin towers of the World Trade Centre dominated the skyline of Manhattan Island from the time they were completed in 1973 until that fateful day of September 11th 2001. Two passenger aircraft under the control of terrorist hijackers crashed into the towers. The world watched as the towers were engulfed in flame until they each collapsed into mountains of rubble and took the lives of nearly three thousand people including three hundred brave rescue workers.

There are many attritions in the city that never sleeps.

The Empire State Building is the tallest building in the world for over twenty years. It can be found in the very centre of New York.

The Sky ride is a simulated helicopter tour and virtual reality movie theatre featuring some of the most fantastic views of New York city ever recorded on film.

The Statue of Liberty was presented as a gift from the French although there was along and involved process getting it funded and built.

A person could spend days or perhaps even months of sightseeing in New York Cities Museums alone.
